The Joys of Mentoring Young People

Mentoring is a two-way street, and I'm constantly reminded of just how rewarding this work can be.
Over the past few years, I've had the privilege of mentoring, formally and informally, several incredible individuals at different stages of their journeys: one just starting their career, another looking to pivot into a completely new industry, a person taking the bold step to travel and find their path, and someone further along seeking that next promotion or career move to a new organisation.
Each one has been a joy to work with.
Yes, I challenge them and push their thinking; that's part of the role. But what continues to amaze me is how much they challenge and inspire me in return. Their fresh perspectives cut through the noise and remind me that despite all the doom and gloom we read about, the world is actually in safer hands with these brilliant young minds leading the way.
When I spend time with these mentees, I'm energised by their ambition and enthusiasm, and reassured by their outlook and approach to both their career and life outside of work.
For me, mentoring isn't just about giving back, it's about staying connected to the future and taking inspiration from the next generation.
