Mental Health Awareness Week 2025

ree

In the course of my work, it may or may not surprise you how often I find myself working with individuals who are having challenges with declining mental health. Many years ago, I could sometimes identify those individuals experiencing mental health issues, but it often took them a while to open up to me, both due to a lack of self-awareness and the associated stigma.

I’m pleased to say that in recent years, I have found people more aware and willing to be open about their mental health, and this is a great thing. I am not saying that it is easy or that the negative pre-conceived views around mental health have disappeared, but I do believe that initiatives like Mental Health Awareness week, and the good work being done by many of the organisations I work with is helping to challenge this and provide people with the understanding and support they need.

If you need help or know someone who does, here are some organisations that offer support:

https://www.nhs.uk/nhs-services/mental-health-services/ - call 111 or contact your GP. If life is at imminent risk, please call 999 for immediate help.

https://giveusashout.org/ - Text ‘Shout’ to 85285 24/7

https://www.samaritans.org/  - Call 116 123 (free) 24/7/365
